Berlin-based Parisian Olivier Ducreux (aka Shonky) studied mathematics for years before devoting his life to producing and DJing, and it shows. Shonky's tracks are exacting, geometric tech-house anthems—released on Freak n'Chic, Crosstown Rebels, and Mobilee, among other labels—and we're proud to offer the dynamic producer's "KorgM1" on Spectral Sound.

Shuffling rhythmic themes with maniacal efficiency, Shonky's "KorgM1" is a sleek, spartan track that belies the producer's twin obsessions of mathematical order and devilish robo-funk. "KorgM1"'s pacing is meticulous, adding and subtracting elements in decisive intervals that repeatedly raise the stakes—a cowbell here, a measure of handclaps there, an ethereal melody here, a pillow-talking bassline there. By the end, Shonky's well-oiled machine does good by its namesake synthesizer, taking the listener to parts unknown and doing so in style.
