Just when you thought Swedish design couldn't get any better, native son Par Grindvik brings out his first full release on Spectral, Continuate, a 12" treat in the tradition of great Nordic artistry. Currently based in Berlin, Grindvik is an established producer and manager of the label, Stockholm LTD, while having toured all over Europe, owning his own record store, and issuing his last release on Adam Beyer's historic Drumcode imprint."Continue In My Words" may start off simple, but it's laced with a tantric-build, pushing subconsciously to the edge where kamikaze lemmings blend mid-air into an exasperated steam machine. Hinting at its thematic namesake, Continuate is riddled with playful determination and divvied up into an array of unusually syncopated sweetspots that just refuse to quit. Laying down a brutal remix are Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock of the prestigious Berlin club, Berghain, as well as a number of other top labels."Continue Me" rides on a topography of mist, blasting and splitting-up, only to be reshaped into gestures that could replace the notion of melody altogether. The few choice notes which actually are singable get de-tuned and tweaked into an irresistible, bittersweet tinge of lust, leaving our ears to pick for scabs with a confused and masochistic sense of pleasure, so sparse and obscured, it's something of a Peeping Tom's wet dream.
