Following several notable 12" releases on Traum and the remarkable Initial Public Offering full-length on Asphodel, Broker/Dealer move to Spectral Sound for their latest release. Their German minimal roots shine through yet again, as the means to an impeccably-produced end that is futuristic without burning the bridges to 80s dancefloor sheen."Opening Night" is a tight, highly danceable disco update that approaches, dare we say, trance. Layers of echoed synths complement a distinctive, driving beat laced with handclaps and hi-hats, under which a syncopated bass line bounces and punches in its own rhythmic realm. "After Hours" occupies the B-side with a much different air, in keeping with its title, a staccato melody pecks at the surface while subtle washes of chords and reverberations underpin the more solemn mood. By the track's end, the beat thickens into a heavier groove, while minute melodic details flutter and echo into the ether. Both tracks on this 12" bespeak an inextricable link between music and atmosphere, and any dancefloor fortunate enough to hear them is sure to feel it, body and soul.
