For the fourth installment of the Ghostly Digital (GIDG) catalog, reclusive shoegaze wunderkind Dykehouse (Mike Dykehouse) brings us the Nostalgia Radar EP, his first new material since 2004's lauded Midrange. Here, the lushness of influences like My Bloody Valentine and Chapterhouse is imbued with a strong love of the pop song, resulting in the jaunty title track and the howling drive of "Hope She Hears This Sound", whose epic climax serves as a stunning turning point. Dykehouse then pays more direct homage to his heroes, with a faithful version of Dinosaur Jr's "Take A Run at the Sun" and a chilly, echoing take on The Smiths' "I Won't Share You", proving that he comes by his style and skill honestly. Coming from a man known for his hyperactive IDM constructions as well as his acerbic live performances, Nostalgia Radar is a surprisingly humble and concise offering that attests to the true timelessness of great pop music.
